Monkeyland
Monkeyland is situated at The Crags in the Western Cape, approximately about 45 minutes driving time from Plettenberg Bay towards Nature’s Valley. The sanctuary is home of about 600 different species of primates, which most of them were rescued from private owners, circuses or other places which are not suitable for wild animals.
The mission of Monkeyland (were also the sanctuaries Birds of Eden and Jukani are part of) is, that their guests leave the sanctuaries with a greater understanding of the World’s wildlife and the understanding for the living environment and the needs of wild animals. The sanctuary and the tours should make people aware of the negative effects of keeping wild animals as pets – in terms of both physical and psychological health. In addition to that Monkeyland also focuses to teach visitors about the rapid decline of natural habitats due to logging, mining, agriculture and human settlements.
Monkeyland, as well as Birds of Eden and Jukani, are certified with the Fare Trade Tourism (FTT) certificate, which supports responsible tourism in southern Africa and beyond.
A tour through Monkeyland is an unforgettable and mind-changing experience which can be highly recommended for the whole family and a ‘must-do’ in the Western Cape.
